Volunteer



You have the power to make a difference. You can be a positive presence in the lives of Middlesex County youth today.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County offer a variety of opportunities to get involved at our clubhouses, in our administrative office, and in the community. 


Why Volunteer?

  • Become involved and better understand issues that face your community.
  • Help youth discover their interests, resolve conflicts, explore their talents, set goals and broaden their perspective.
  • Impart crucial skills to help youth reach their potential.
  • Enrich and expand youths’ social connections.
  • Enhance youth’s self-image and optimism about the future.
  • Learn about yourself; develop your leadership skills, self-esteem  and self-concept through helping others.


Opportunities to Volunteer with Youth

Mentor: 1:1 Match

Commi tment Time: 2 hours per week for 10 months

Areas of Involvement: To give a young person (male or female between the ages of 6 a nd 18) in need of social and recreational development and emotional support the companionship of an adult to supplement the work of parents, t eachers, counselors, social workers and other social services and education professionals.



Tutor

Commitment Time: Approximately nine months , with 60 to 90 minutes of st udent contact per week

Areas of Involvement: Commitment to developing a supportive relationship with a student to improve reading skills. Activities will be structured and focused on improving specific liter­acy skills (such as comprehension, vocabulary, or analyzing content).


 


Programming

Commitment Time: One hour per week for a minimum 4 month commitment

Areas of Involvement:  Interest in helping youth develop socially and emotionally. Help youth discover their interests, resolve conflicts, explore their talents, set goals and broaden their perspective. Host or support staff in fun/educational activities for kids in our Clubs. Club hours are 3 – 7 PM.  

Examples: Yoga, dance, basketball, lacrosse, scooter handball, double dutch, fooseball, puzzles, checkers, Lego tournaments, brain teasers, drama, Wii/Kinect games, science club, service club, digital music, arts & crafts, or use your special skill and imagination!



 

Reading Buddy

Commitment Time: Approximately eight months, with 60 to 90 minutes of student contact per week

Areas of Involvement: Commitment to developing a supportive relationship with a student to improve reading skills. Activities are developed by BGCMC and focus on improving specific liter­acy skills (such as comprehension, vocabulary, or analyzing content).




Running Club Coach

Time Commitment: 1.5 hours per week from 3 – 4:30 p.m. (Fall and Spring)

Areas of Involvement: Interest in helping youth, especially those disinterested in physical activity, learn more about and develop health habits. Coaches provide support, motivation, team development and maintain safety of group while working out.

Drive for Kids
Are you known for your drive?  Well, put that motivation and enthusiasm to work with a Drive for Kids!  By coordinating a supply drive for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County, you'll rally your coworkers (or friends, or classmates) around the cause of helping local youth. Elbow Grease Events
Sometimes, what a clubhouse needs is a good spring cleaning.  If you (and your business, group or family) are looking for an active one-time volunteer opportunity, consider planning an Elbow Grease Event!  You'll be supporting the Boys & Girls Club mission of providing outstanding facilities to local youth.  Contact the administration office at (617) 623-7370.
